Birth Trauma Resolution Therapy

I am pleased to now offer appointments for Birth Trauma Resolution Therapy.

Everyone’s experience of birth is individual. Sometimes, families can be left feeling traumatised following the birth of their baby. They may find it hard to let go of their feelings and certain traumatic memories around the birth. The birth or traumatic event may be playing in the back ground of their mind on a repeat reel, while they are trying to get on with all that goes with parenting. Over time, they may find the memory keeps intruding on their day and night which becomes exhausting and triggering. Many parents can be left feeling anxious, stressed and unable to process or understand the intensity of their feelings. This can absolutely impact on early parenthood and infant feeding.

Birth Trauma Resolution Therapy is a safe, gentle solution focused therapy. The big intense feelings of birth can be resolved in a short number of sessions. This frees parents from the intrusion of intense, highly charged emotions and gives them the head space they need for transitioning to parenting along with establishing and sustaining feeding .

Let the first step in your recovery from pregnancy , birth or feeding trauma be to contact me for a chat about how this service can help you.

Testimonials

“I met with Pauline for birth trauma therapy after an emotionally difficult birthing experience and I really couldn’t recommend this service enough to anyone who has had a tough time. Pauline is so knowledgeable and kind, she was quick to recognise the events were affecting my relationship with my baby in ways I didn’t realise. She is so patient with every problem and has a very calming presence and voice. She identified historical issues that were contributing to my trauma and guided me through that, something I felt very safe doing.”

Birth Trauma Resolution Therapy BTR Session

The initial session is one hour and 30 minutes. Subsequent appointments are up to 60 minutes. The first session is the longer session this involves building trust and rapport, listening to your story ,validating your feelings around the story of your traumatic event.

We will create some goals and agree a plan for the sessions. The first session also focuses on breathing techniques that allow you to calm your nervous system and be guided through meditation. You will be sent a personal guided mediation to practice between sessions.

Clients often start to feel different after the first session because it may have been the first time they really felt heard or more importantly their feelings validated.

The second session involves the cornerstone of BTR which is the rewind technique a technique that is designed to draw the negative emotions away from your experience. The deep relaxation state for BTR allows people to view their experience from a safe, calm space, encouraging the brain’s openness to reduce negative emotions and consider feeling more positive.

Subsequent sessions are based around building confidence, resilience, trust. With these You will build tools to help your move forward without the highly charged emotions attached to the memory of your traumatic event so that you can reimagine a more positive future .

Online Consultations

I use a paid Zoom platform to carry out online consultations. Like all of my consultations, you can expect a confidential, compassionate, respectful, and professional service.

Testimonials

I sought Pauline’s help concerning bottle refusal. A good consultant concerning this issue is hard to come by. I couldn’t have asked for better help. Pauline was knowledgeable, empathetic, and nurturing during a stressful period. She made me realise that I was going in the wrong direction and my daughter had developed an oral aversion. With Pauline’s help, my daughter is thriving and reaching her developmental milestones. She is loving her sippy cup and weaning fun.

Online Consultation

There are some slight differences to online consultations, the consultation tends to be shorter, a duration of around 1 hr 30 min.

What happens at a consultation?

In order to prepare for your online consultation, I will speak to you on the phone and will explain what I require for the consultation and why. I will assess your baby’s position latch and suck through the use of the videos. Photos of your baby may give me a clue to structural issues that may impact breastfeeding.

Your baby may breastfeed or feed during the consultation and that is very useful too. I will offer you information and guidance that will help you resolve your feeding issues and help you reach your nursing or feeding goals. The consultation will be much the same as a clinic visit except, I will not be able to carry out an infant suck assessment or weigh your baby.

A tongue-tie may be identified however be it will not be as reliable as a face-to-face assessment. Following the consultation, I will email a management plan to you and arrange to follow up contact with you. Some consultations are more suited to clinic visits and I may recommend this path over the online alternative.

Breastfeeding is an art and a science and Pauline is an expert and an artiste! She also helped us in the first few weeks when a tongue tie rendered us a bit confused. Our breastfeeding journey shows no sign of ending anytime soon and baby Éirinn is more than thriving! I can never thank Pauline enough for what she has given to us. Keep up the amazing work!”
